Tuchel Seeks Jude Bellingham's Passion So Long As England's Star Sets Aside His Ego at the Door.

One snub did the trick. A second one and it could have seemed vindictive from the England manager, who is far too wily not to understand that claiming the World Cup trophy demands contributions by Jude Bellingham, although it is also on the midfielder to adapt to the game plans and team pecking order essential with the national team now that he is returned to Tuchel's warm embrace.

Tuchel wants Bellingham's edge, his fire, but it is a matter of harnessing it appropriately. Personal talent is important but the squad understand from past setbacks that there is a price to pay when stardom dominates. Still, a point has been made.

The midfielder had much to ponder after being left out of the previous squad. He observed England secure their spot at the tournament without him. He watched Morgan Rogers excel as a high-pressing No 10. He heard the coach mention loving the team's dynamism and values. Inevitably, Bellingham has reacted in top form, netting important strikes for his club versus Barcelona and the Italian side. His selection was inevitable; another omission would have made his squad place precarious.

The hope is that the manager will have a midfielder directed towards pressuring the opposition rather than his own colleagues. After all, in purely sporting terms, there is no advantage to starting a conflict with one of the best players in the world. The best outcome is that Bellingham’s time out of the team has shown him that playing for one's country is a precious, uncertain thing. Tuchel, on his side, can now throw a protective shield around the 22-year-old after demonstrating that he is willing to drop big names.

“No issue exists with him, there is no problem about his personality,” Tuchel stated. “Jude displays the edge. You need a sharp mentality to succeed at the top that he reached. Everyone need to help him and establish a setting where he can channel his drive against rivals and towards the goals we are striving for as a team.”

Bellingham took up much of the focus at the manager's selection reveal for this month’s meaningless matches against one opponent and the other. Any other news? Well, what about another talent? Here is a further gifted playmaker in need of support and direction. He has not played for the national team since March and has struggled to hit the heights recently but Tuchel had to consider the 25-year-old after his performance in Manchester City’s win against Borussia Dortmund recently.

The issue, however, is the best way to deploy the various creators at available. Morgan Rogers and Eze have earned their places and there will be a strong case to select another youngster once he recovers from a ongoing injury. Would taking several attacking midfielders to the tournament be an overkill? The previous manager failed to discover the optimal mix at the European Championship. He made concessions by forcing Foden and Bellingham into the starting lineup, restricting the captain's style as a result.

It seems unlikely the current manager doing similar if it harms the offensive structure. There is room for one No 10, with fast wide players on the wings. Clarity helps. He is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, called up for the first occasion, is a central midfielder and the returning Adam Wharton will vie with another player as a defensive midfielder. Additionally, there is no position on the wing for Foden, who has to be through the middle. The coach wants him close to Kane. “It does not make sense to ask Phil: ‘You are needed on the pitch but no spot exists in your preferred role, could you fill in at the left side? Or the right wing?” he said. “Phil is to feature in the advanced midfield role, in the middle of the pitch. I've long had this vision regarding him for a long time. I think it matches his abilities the most.”

Tuchel agreed there are times when Foden has appeared uncomfortable in an England shirt. “You feel almost like, ‘Does he really enjoy it? And someone of his caliber who has such natural delight to play football, then obviously an issue exists, be it his role, the setup, it's unclear.

“In my opinion he is also accustomed to playing for Man City in a particular setup, with a clear task. I think he benefits greatly from clarity. What is my position? In which positions should I turn? Where am I supposed to push the tempo? What are my to defend?

Tuchel mentioned Bellingham bursting through for tap-ins and the other drilling in goals from outside the box. He added he has a extended list of many candidates. Several players, others, the goalkeeper and the midfielder have been omitted. Nico O’Reilly is rewarded for his excellent performances for Manchester City at left-back. Intrigue abounds.

Leaving out of Ollie Watkins means there is no like-for-like alternative for the captain in this squad. Interestingly, he suggested using the playmaker as a deep-lying striker versus one opponent or Albania. Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford, the midfielder and the winger are other options should he be absent. With qualification secured, this is a moment for trying new things.

At the same time, it is also a moment to develop Kane’s relationship with his teammate going. It's surprising that one must look back to Bellingham assisting Kane to score in a friendly win versus the Scots in September 2023 to discover the one and only time in many appearances for England when the pair linked up for a score. The coach will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only passed to each other once during England’s draws with one opponent and Slovenia at the Euros. Their partnership is missing.

“This is where at some point it becomes the duty of the individuals,” Tuchel said. He is not afraid to deliver home truths. There is still a feeling of Bellingham having to prove himself. He may not be guaranteed to begin versus Serbia and Albania. The manager desires him committed but he will be observing him carefully. Set aside the ego at the door. Doing so could turn a powerful squad into an more effective one.
