A female charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly left her a recorded message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has consistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the tribunal heard phone records and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and is still open.

'I Don't Want Money'

One phone message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I feel."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "What if there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be important for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.

The panel was informed that by means of electronic messages, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who compiled the data, informed the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.

On that date, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the time leading up to the trip to that location, that area, in December 2024.

The court learned correspondence between the two individuals, in last November, discussing trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their residence, the defendant sent a communication which said: "We are sat near the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with someone else I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The trial ongoing.
